Strategic Planning

Strategic Planning

"I believe that if you show people the problems and you show them the solutions they will be moved to act."
Bill Gates

At WCG, we take strategy very seriously. "Failing to plan" is just another way of saying, "planning to fail." Sound strategic planning is the cornerstone of every successful business venture. Strategy rules. Until events beyond your control force a change in direction, core strategy should drive all decisions. It’s okay to allow for creativity and personal initiative as long as the decision is on strategy.

Developing a strategic roadmap is hard work, but it’s not as difficult as it sounds. While there is no secret formula and every business is different, there are a few basics, which facilitate getting the job done quickly.

What Is The Current Reality? This is a brutally honest and candid assessment of the environment, business fundamentals, marketplace, and competitive set as outlined in the section Business Advisors.

Where Do We Want To Be, Both Short and Long-Term? Success cannot be achieved unless it's clearly defined at the outset. Define the win your Company is going after and what it means - objectively and emotionally - to everyone inside and outside the Company. Have clearly articulated goals and reaching but realistic timetables. A Mission Statement (a statement summarizing why your business exists and its basic purpose), and a Vision Statement (summarizing your dreams, hopes, and aspirations) will be an important step in goal setting.

What Are The Obstacles to Achieving Your Goals? There are as many obstacles as there are businesses, varying in intensity and duration. They should be clearly identified in the work outlined under Business Advisors and generally fall into categories such as Environmental, Legislative, Regulatory, Demographic and Psychographic Trends, Resource Constraints, Emerging Technologies, Consumer Wants, Needs and Lifestyle, and Competitive Threats.

What Are The Strategic Elements to Overcome The Obstacles? Having identified where you are, where you want to be and what are the barriers, how you are going to get there should be relatively easy to identify. What combination of elements will give your business a distinctive, sustainable competitive edge? The litmus test for sound strategy is three fold: speed, clarity, and impact.

There's no better time then now to start planning your future!
